Northeast Hearing Solutions office in Hazle Township, PA

Your hearing test here is free

No charge for the test, no charge for the conversation about your results, and no obligation attached to either. If your hearing turns out to be fine, we will tell you that and you will be on your way.

It is the sign on our door because it is the honest way to start. The cost question is what keeps most people waiting years longer than they needed to, so we take it off the table. Cost only comes up if you decide to go ahead with hearing aids, and that conversation happens afterwards, with real numbers.

Bring your insurance card and we will check your hearing benefit before you come in.

Book a free hearing test  or call (570) 459-1400

What the free test is, plainly: an evaluation of your hearing to work out whether hearing aids would help you. It is not a full audiological examination and it is not a medical diagnosis. If we find anything that should be looked at by a physician or an audiologist, we will tell you and refer you.

Nevin at our Hazle Township office, 426 Airport Rd, Suite 139.

Northeast Hearing Solutions has been caring for ears across Northeast Pennsylvania since 2006, and our Hazle Township office puts that care within a short drive of most of the Greater Hazleton area. Free hearing tests, hearing aids fitted and verified to your own ears, earwax removal, and repairs on devices whoever sold them.

Finding us: The Beltway Commons

Worth reading before you set off, because "426 Airport Rd" on its own does not tell you much.

We are inside The Beltway Commons, the health complex on Airport Road that also houses Geisinger, The Kidney Center of Greater Hazleton, a walk-in care clinic, a lab and the New Broad Street Deli. If you have ever had bloodwork done there or picked up lunch, you have already parked in our lot and walked past our door.

If you navigate by landmarks rather than addresses: we are on the Airport Beltway stretch, in the building next to the Ashley Store, up the road from the car dealerships and the airport.

Parking is a large open lot directly in front of the building. No garage, no meters, no circling the block.

Not driving? There is a bus stop at the building itself — signed Beltway Commons — so you can get here without a car and without a long walk at either end.

Go in through the main entrance, under the Beltway Commons sign. We are Suite 139, on the ground floor — no stairs and no elevator needed, and the building is accessible throughout. Look for the Northeast Hearing Solutions door with the FREE HEARING TEST sign in the window and the office hours taped up beside it. There are chairs just outside, and that is a perfectly good place to wait if you are early.

If you get turned around, call (570) 459-1400 and somebody will come out and find you. It is no trouble at all.

Who we see here

The Hazle Township office serves the Greater Hazleton area, which for most people means a drive of ten or fifteen minutes rather than a day out:

  • Hazleton and West Hazleton
  • Conyngham and Sugarloaf, down through the valley
  • Drums and the Butler Township communities
  • Freeland, Beaver Meadows and Tresckow
  • McAdoo and Weatherly
  • The smaller communities across Hazle Township itself, including Humboldt and Harwood

If you are coming from further north or west, our Kulpmont office is open on different days and may be the easier trip. Tell us where you are starting from and we will say honestly which one makes more sense.

Open Mondays and Wednesdays

Two days a week, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and it is worth being upfront about that.

This is a two-person practice rather than a storefront with rotating staff, which is the reason you get the same person at every visit and also the reason we are not open five days here. If Monday and Wednesday do not work for you, Kulpmont is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the same practitioner and the same records. Plenty of Hazleton-area patients use whichever office fits their week.

Call (570) 459-1400 and a person answers, not a menu. Most new patients are seen within the week.

What a first appointment actually looks like

Plan for about 90 minutes. That is not 90 minutes of testing.

Most of it is conversation. Where is the day hardest. Which voices do you lose, and where. What have you quietly stopped doing because it got tiring — the family dinners, the phone calls, the church you sit at the back of. Two people can have near-identical test results and need completely different things, and the only way to find that out is to ask and then listen.

Then the testing itself, and then your results explained properly, in the room, in plain language. Not a printout handed to you on the way out.

Bring your insurance card, a list of your medications, and if you can, somebody whose voice you struggle with most. Hearing a familiar voice during the evaluation tells us more than a recorded word list does, and two sets of ears retain more of what gets discussed.

What we do at this office

Walk in on a Monday or Wednesday

You do not need an appointment for the small things. Cleanings, wax guards, a device that has gone quiet, tubing that has gone hard — come in during open hours and we will look at it.

That applies to hearing aids you bought elsewhere too. We service most major manufacturers whoever sold them, and we will tell you what anything costs before we touch it. For patients fitted here, routine care is simply part of being our patient.

Insurance, including Geisinger Gold

We work with Geisinger Gold Medicare Advantage and many other plans, and we verify your hearing benefit before your appointment rather than after. Bring your card and we will do the checking.

If your plan does not cover as much as you hoped, financing options may include PowerPay and CareCredit. And every new fitting includes a 30-day trial, so the decision is never final on the day you make it.

Who you will see

Nevin G. Balliet, BC-HIS, a Nationally Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist, holder of Pennsylvania Hearing Aid Fitter License #F30648, and the founder of this practice. He sees patients personally at both offices.

When you call, Marissa picks up. After a visit or two she will know your voice.

Nobody here works on commission. Nevin built the practice on two rules — follow the Golden Rule, and always try to do the right thing — and being locally owned is what makes that possible. There is no head office setting targets, so the right answer for you and the right answer for the practice can be the same answer.

Voted best hearing aid specialist in the area nine years running by the people who live here.

Common questions

Where exactly is the Hazle Township office?

Inside The Beltway Commons at 426 Airport Rd, the health complex that also houses Geisinger, The Kidney Center of Greater Hazleton, urgent care and a lab. Park in the large lot out front, come in the main entrance, and we are Suite 139 on the ground floor with the free hearing test sign in the window. Call (570) 459-1400 if you get turned around and somebody will come out to you.

Is the Hazle Township office accessible, and is there parking?

Yes to both. Suite 139 is on the ground floor of The Beltway Commons, with no stairs to manage, and the building is accessible throughout. Parking is a large open lot directly in front of the main entrance.

Can I get to the Hazle Township office without driving?

Yes. There is a bus stop at the building itself, signed Beltway Commons, so you can arrive without a car and without a long walk at either end. Suite 139 is on the ground floor once you are inside. If a ride is easier, bring somebody with you, we are glad of the company at an appointment anyway.

When is the Hazle Township office open?

Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If those days do not work, our Kulpmont office is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and it is the same practitioner at both. Call (570) 459-1400 or book online and we will find a time.

Which towns does the Hazle Township office serve?

Hazleton and West Hazleton, Conyngham, Sugarloaf, Drums, Freeland, McAdoo, Weatherly, Beaver Meadows and the smaller communities across Hazle Township itself. If you are further out, we also have an office in Kulpmont, and we will tell you honestly which one is the easier trip for you.

Is the hearing test really free?

Yes. No charge for the test, none for the conversation about your results, and no obligation attached to either. The free hearing test evaluates your hearing to work out whether hearing aids would help you; it is not a full audiological examination. If your hearing is fine, we will tell you and you will be on your way.

How much do hearing aids cost in the Hazleton area?

It depends on the technology level and your hearing loss, which is why every fitting starts with a hearing test and an honest recommendation rather than a price list. Every fitting includes a 30-day trial, and financing options may include PowerPay and CareCredit. We check your insurance benefit before your appointment so the cost conversation happens up front.

Do you accept Geisinger Gold or other insurance?

Yes. We work with Geisinger Gold Medicare Advantage and many other plans, and we verify your hearing benefit before your visit so there are no surprises.

How are you different from the chain hearing aid stores around Hazleton?

Nobody here works on commission, so the recommendation you get is based on your hearing rather than on what needs shifting this month. You see Nevin himself, a Nationally Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist, and the person who tests your hearing is the person who fits your devices and adjusts them a year later. It is a two-person practice, family owned since 2006.

Do you repair hearing aids or remove earwax?

Yes to both, including devices you bought somewhere else. Cleanings, wax guards and minor repairs are walk-in on open days, no appointment needed. For earwax removal we use the Earigator irrigation system. Call ahead on a Monday or Wednesday and we will fit you in, or see us in Kulpmont on a Tuesday or Thursday.
