The fitting appointment is where your hearing aids stop being a product and become yours. Plan on at least an hour, this visit does a lot of work, and rushing it shortchanges everything that follows.
What happens at the fitting
Your devices arrive pre-programmed to your hearing test results, and we verify and refine that programming with you in the chair. Then comes the hands-on part, where we make sure you leave confident with:
- Inserting and removing the devices (harder than it looks on day one, automatic by week two)
- Charging, or changing batteries, and daily on/off
- Cleaning and overnight care
- Any app, streaming or program features your devices include
Two practical tips: bring a family member or close friend. A second set of ears helps you retain the instructions, and their familiar voice is useful during testing. And ask for anything in writing, we're happy to send you home with printed instructions.
Your first listen
The moment the devices turn on is memorable, and a little strange. Your own voice may sound odd; the room may seem alive with small sounds you'd forgotten. That's your brain meeting years of missing input all at once, and it's completely normal. We'll make immediate adjustments for anything that's genuinely uncomfortable, and we'll verify that speech is landing where it should, including with live speech mapping, which measures real speech at your eardrum.
The weeks that follow
Honesty is your best tool here. As you live with the devices, notice what's great and what's not, the echoing kitchen, the too-sharp dishes clatter, the quiet talker you still miss, and tell us specifically. Fine-tuning across a visit or two is a normal, expected part of the process, not a sign anything's wrong.
Attitude genuinely matters too: wearers who put the devices on every morning and give their brain time to recalibrate consistently do better than drawer-keepers. Give it consistent wear, keep your follow-ups, and the strange-sounding first week gives way to hearing you stop thinking about, which is the whole point.
