Bring a Loved One to Your Appointment

Please bring a listening partner. Here's why it matters.

If you have hearing loss, you might not be able to hear all of the information presented during your appointment. That's not a small thing. Your visit covers your test results, your options, and your questions, and missing pieces of that conversation makes every decision harder. A trusted second set of ears changes everything.

What a listening partner adds

A spouse, adult child, or close friend brings three things you can't bring yourself:

  • A familiar voice. During testing and fitting, hearing a voice you know, at the pace and pitch you actually live with, tells us far more than recorded speech alone. If we verify your fitting with live speech mapping, your loved one's voice can be the test signal.
  • Their perspective on your hearing. The people around you noticed your hearing change before you did. They know which situations are hardest, how loud the TV really is, and what's been missed at the dinner table. That picture helps us help you.
  • A second memory. Appointments cover a lot of ground. Research on medical visits consistently shows patients retain only part of what's discussed. Two people leave with more of the story, fewer "wait, what did he say?" moments, and better decisions.

It helps them, too

Hearing loss affects the whole household. Partners often carry years of repeating themselves, raising their voices, and translating in restaurants. Being part of the appointment helps your loved one understand what's happening in your ears, what's realistic to expect from treatment, and how they can make conversation easier at home.

No pressure, ever

A companion is welcome at every kind of visit: hearing tests, hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and follow-ups. There's comfortable seating in the room, your appointment is unhurried, and your loved one can ask questions too. Around here, most patients bring somebody, and we think the visits go better for it.

Ready to schedule? Book online or contact either office, and tell whoever drives you that we said thanks.
